Why a lab?
Golf training software can produce an impressive number of values from a short clip. The hard part is deciding which values remain useful when the phone, camera position, lighting, golfer and background change. The GolfDaddy Lab exists to make those decisions explicit for GolfDaddy AI and its future capture systems.
“Lab” is a product discipline, not a claim of academic status. We are not presenting the current private beta as a medical device, a biomechanics laboratory or a launch monitor. It is a camera-first training app being tested on real consumer hardware.
Four principles behind the product
Guide the capture
View, framing, distance, light and frame rate affect what a video can support. The app should help the golfer create a usable recording before analysis begins.
Respect the view
A side recording and a rear recording reveal different relationships. Outputs should change with the selected view instead of pretending every angle is interchangeable.
Test repeatability
A promising result has to behave consistently across supported devices and realistic practice conditions before it becomes a public product claim.
Show uncertainty
Blocked landmarks, blurred frames and unsupported inputs should reduce confidence or return no result. A blank field is better than invented precision.
From a recorded swing to a training cue
The product pipeline begins with guided capture and a view label. The app can then identify visible landmarks over time, locate supported swing phases and derive camera-visible relationships. A product-ready output needs more than a plausible value: it needs checks for capture quality, missing observations and view-specific support.
- Capture check: Is the subject framed, is the view supported and are enough frames usable?
- Observation check: Are the landmarks needed for this output visible with sufficient confidence?
- Context check: Is the output valid for this view and motion type?
- Repeatability check: Does the output remain stable enough across repeated tests to guide practice?
- Presentation check: Can the app explain the result in plain language without overstating what the camera measured?
The Android private beta is live. The public metric set, device matrix and final iOS and Android behavior are still being validated and will be documented with the verified store listings.
Measurement ledger
We separate direct or camera-supported observations from quantities that need additional hardware. Consumer video can support useful movement and timing review when the capture is good. It does not directly provide the complete set of club-and-ball dynamics associated with a dedicated launch monitor.
That is why the current app is described as a golf swing analyzer and tempo trainer, not a launch monitor. Sensor-assisted training and a full monitor remain future research directions without released specifications, accuracy statements or dates.
Private-beta processing and privacy
In the current private beta, pose analysis, video processing and clip storage happen on the Android device. That statement describes the current beta architecture, not every possible future service. Any public-release cloud feature, account system or model-training use would require clear policy language and appropriate controls before launch.
The marketing site’s current data practices are described in the website privacy notice. App-specific retention, deletion and platform disclosures will be finalized before the public release.
How research updates become product claims
We will publish supported-device information, capture requirements and the meaning of public-facing metrics as they are finalized. Until then, private-beta screens and sample values illustrate product direction; they are not accuracy certifications.
